InSearch, Blossom's Intranet Search software, provides high-quality searching for private Web sites. InSearch runs under modern versions of Windows and works with all Web servers. The software package includes:

A spider that walks Web sites collecting files of various types.
An indexer that builds rich indexes from a collection of text files.
A search engine that runs using the standard Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
Filters for indexing PDF, MS/Word, and WordPerfect files.
An administrator's console to control building and managing one or more search indexes.

Note. If your intranet is accessible from outside your organization using password protection, then you may be able to use one of Blossom's hosted search services. Hosted services are generally less expensive and much easier to implement and maintain than locally installed software packages. Blossom's search service can manage sites that use Basic Authentication for protection.

Results in context (words searched for are highlighted in the search results. Often this means that the info being sought is delivered without having to pull down the Web page).
Easy for people to use (no special operators).
Smart handling of phrases (to match a page, the words in a phrase must be near one another, but not necessarily in the order given).
Searchable lexicon (especially useful for names and technical terms).
Spell checking of search keys (if a word is entered that doesn't appear in the lexicon, Search.Blossom will suggest close alternatives).
Search report (tells you what people searched for).
Fine control over page weighting.
Can index database queries, PDF and word processing files.
